Hello everybody. We have Terminal Servers with WS2012/R2 and a lot of client that use on their local computers IE 6 for special application which work only on IE6. We need to migrate them to TS. How can we stream IE6 on TS 2012/R2. IE 6 is not installerable on Windows 2012/R2. Can we stream for example IE6 to TS 2012/R2?
Thank you.
We have Windows 2012 R2 RDS Session Host farm setup with the following numbers of servers
All the above mentioned RDS servers are VM's on a HyperV 2012R2 3 Node Cluster.
We wish to achieve the following
Is there a set procedure to rename computers those are part of RDS session host farm?
Good day,
We have this very annoying problem with a RDP Terminal Server. It is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
This server has the Session Host role installed, with local RDP user licenses.
We only have this issue when running a certain application.
This application is called Rockwell FactoryTalk View and this in an application to display industrial processes.
It will take the Full Screen in a fixed resolution and will display buttons, objects, values... The application also uses Internet Explorer cache so I think it uses ActiveX, Flash or Java, I don't know.
What sometimes happens is this:
- The mouse point is able to move in the entire screen (good)
- The mouse button will only work in 1 certain area of the screen (which is a small rectangle)
- The mouse "hovering" above objects will also only highlight items that are in this rectangle
- The keyboard remains functional and with alt-tab other objects or other applications can get focus, but still no mouse clicking
The problem can be solved by:
- Minimizing the RDP window and maximizing it again
- Or: Sending a message to the session using task manager, after clicking "OK" on that message the problem is gone
Normally, about 5 users will have this application opened in their session, the "crash" is only effecting 1 session.
The problem seems to happen randomly and we don't know if we should point to the FactoryTalk application, or to Terminal Services/RDP. The end users have no rights to minimize/maximize, this is not the solution.
Is it possible to have any input on this please?
Thank you.
friends i am trying to understand couple of things from licensing and access to virtual cloud server in a hoster environment and want to get your views if we are doing this correct or there is better way to do this.
1. we give windows based virtual cloud server to your clients. and most of the time they want to have RDP to this server with multi people sessions at a time. so do i have to configure terminal service on each VM which we provide to client or is there a better way.. because think of this scenario if client starts with 10 CALs today and i take the license from Microsoft then in some time if they increase, it will be a problem for client to give the access to their VM to again install the extra RDP cals.
2. I am not sure if this can be answered here.. what is the right way to get the TS license from a SPLA point of view.. currently i have to call microsoft licensing team each time we get a client who wants RDP access but i knw this is not the right way i guess..so whats the right way of doing this..
is there a way that all the VMs which we provide to our client can already have RDP access with unlimited user sessions because what i have seen with other cloud providers they dont have this issue of sessions we can have unlimited people doing RDP so definitely i am doing some mistake somewhere. please if someone can share the right way.
It's a 2012R2 server with win7 pooled virtual desktops. Disk usage of these desktops is somewhy high. They'd used all space at the volume and lost profile disks. After reboot and incrising that volume i've found that the vms where not rebooted but "saved". Users even said there were no reboot. After relogin they managed to work again except one.
I've restarted his vm in collection manualy but server manager still shows the session of this user. I can't disconnect it getting erros "Unable to disconnect session 147 on host.domain. WTS API failed". PS commands return errors too. Can i disconnect this session somehow or reboot of the server is the only option?
Hi!
I have a lab with a hyper-v host with windows server 2012 R2 (in workgroup).
I have many vms since Windows Server 2003 including WS 2012 R2.
My colleagues an I wan't to acess lab vms from desktop (windows 7 e 8) trought the internet.
My understanding this can be accomplished with remote desktop server services. What I need minimum
to install in version Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1 (enterprise edition) 64 Bits ? Best Regards

Hi,
I have been presented with a problem to solver! I am confident in my technical skills but I have studied RDS but never implemented it so I need some guidance. Also not to sure how you licence machines when using VDI? I read that my normal Win server 2012 R2 standard licence is no good if I virtualise it, is that correct? I read through the MS licencing documentation but still come away with out a clue, so I rang MS but I explained that I wasn't sure what licence I would need to Virtualise Server 2012 R2 and also the VM Win 8.1 clients that I want to virtualise. But all they said was I would need a VDI CAL licence, is that correct? Not sure what that is anyway but it didn't sound right to me? I know that I would need an RDS cal if I use VDI normally but I wanted to know if I need a different licence for Server 2012 R2 itself? From a paragraph I read it said that Virtualisation licences would be needed. So that's what I asked MS cust serv for but I didn't get the answer to my question. So can someone here clear things up for me please? I will be running MS win server 2012 R2 standard as a VM on VMware ESXI 5.5 and then using RDS from that aswell as promoting it to a DC. So what licence will I need?
Right so here is the situation: -
I have 5 Mac computers in an office which have been running separate VM's of Win 7 which allows the users to run Sage line 50 etc, but this has become unusable because its so slow. So the owner bought a server off EBay which is pretty decent for what he paid, Quad XEON, 42GB RAM, 6x 300Gb SAS Hdd's, IDRAC 6 ent & 4 NIC's.
He has asked me to try and work a solution from products he was interested in namely VMware ESXI 5.5. So I am installing ESXI 5.5 on the server first then setting up Win serv 2012 R2 as a VM, but then I need to set up a way to get his Windows Apps i.e. Sage to the users via the web browser. I know I will need to go down the RDS Remote App route, but need pointing in the right direction on finding out what I need to be reading and doing to achieve this. I think I will also need to setup Remote Desktops along side to give users Virtualised machines to use as they need with personal profiles. Is this doable? Can you run Remote App along side Remote Desktops on the same server?
So if your still with me at this point, thanks for your time and I really hope you can through some of your vast knowledge my way?
Is this all achievable using only MS products or is it easier to look at Citrix XenDesktop?
Thanks

Hi All,
I have a windows server 2012 R2 RDS server.
For some reason when users log in to the RDS server they see 100 printers in the Devices and printers.
I had a look and all these printers belongs to all the users that connected on the network on other RDS servers.
Do you know how I can remove them ?

I cannot connect to a windows based computer via the Microsoft Remote Desktop on Mac. I used it last week and it worked perfectly. I updated it to version 8.08 yesterday, the same connection was saved and now I cannot connect. It keeps on "connecting" via a black screen but it never connects. Before it only took a few seconds to connect.
Is there anyway to revert back to the previous version ?? Please help, I need it for my work.
Hello!
On one of our sites containing around 15 servers, whenever a terminal server is rebooted, it gets stuck on Applying Computer Settings for around 15 minutes. If it is un-joined from the domain then no issue. Moreover, once it is done with this delay, no time delay is observed in user login. But after every reboot, 15 - 20 mins delay is always observed. Domain is the same at other sites and no issue is being observed else where.

We migrated our Remote desktop licensing from server 2012 to server 2012 R2. We have 2003, 2008, and 2012 licenses installed. The migration was smooth with no issues. I usedhttps://activate.microsoft.com as I have before.
The new license server has been up and running for a few weeks and all seems good. The License server is issuing temporary licenses for all OS'es (server 2003, 2008, and 2012).
When I go into the licensing console, I see that the 2008 and 2012 licenses are being upgraded to permanent and this is verified in the event viewer by Event ID 82 ( The "Temporary" Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : TS or RDS Per Device CAL belonging to computer "XX-XXXXX" has been upgraded to "Permanent" Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 : TS or RDS Per Device CAL.)
However, the Server 2003 licenses are not being upgraded to permanent status, the event viewer shows no errors and the users are not reporting any issues.
Has anyone else seen this issue and know why the licenses are not being upgraded or know how to correct it?
Russ

We have an RDS server (Windows Server 2008 R2). When connecting devices running windows CE 5 to this server we get an error, "Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer. Verify that you are logged on to the network, and then try connecting again". This is one of three RDS servers. Connecting the same device to one of the other servers works with no issues.
I've used the following link to troubleshoot,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2477176
- RDS is set allow connections from any version (less secure).
- Security layer is set to RDP Security Layer
Any other ideas from anyone?
